To mark the Hallowe’en holidays, pupils and staff arrived to school in freakishly frightening style on Friday, 27th October. Taking advantage of the fine autumn day, we all took part in a fancy dress parade after lunch.
One costume was selected from each classroom for the Final Five and overall winner of Best Costume 2017 was Joanne Ryan, 6th class, with her very creative and clever design.

Following on from a very special evening in the parish church on Thursday, 26th October, the Mission team of Sr Mary, Sr Rosaleen and Michelle joined us for a final visit and farewell on Friday, 27th October. A presentation was made on behalf of the pupils and staff, and then each class performed a party piece to mark the end of Mission week and the beginning of the Hallowe’en mid-term break. The occasion concluded with a rendition of ‘Time to be Happy’ – our favorite Mission week song!
On Wednesday of Mission week at Scoil Mhuire the children were treated to puppet shows by the Mission team. The shows were created to encourage the children to consider the life God wants each of us to live, and portrayed these life lessons in a fun and interactive way. Both groups enjoyed the session immensely.

It is hard to believe that Mid-term break is upon us already.
School will close on Friday, 27th October at 1.55pm for Junior and Senior Infants, and 2.55pm for 1st – 6th class.
School will re-open on Monday, November 6th at 9.15am.

Scoil Mhuire will celebrate Hallowe’en in style on Friday, October 27th when pupils and staff will don their spookiest, scariest and most ghoulishly frightening costumes. As you are aware, the Parish Mission has been taking place in the parish since last week. As part of this event the Mission Team will be in Scoil Mhuire every day this week. Every morning the team will facilitate ‘Prayers for Parents/Guardians’ in the school hall from 9:25 to 9:35. Anyone who is available is most welcome at this time. You can enter the hall from the side entrance of the school (Knockavilla side) once all the pupils have entered the school.
The children and staff will be involved in other sessions with the Mission Team throughout each day. The team will prepare the pupils in each class for a special service which will take place in the parish church on Thursday, 26th October, at 7.30pm. They hope you will attend this event to see the activities your child/children have been involved in during Mission week at school.
We celebrated National Children’s Day of Prayer on Friday, 13th October. We had mass for all the pupils and staff in the school hall. Fr Egan led the children in prayer and song at this very special event to mark the occasion, and also to celebrate the start of another school year. The theme of this years National Children’s Day of Prayer was The Family. Each child in the school was invited to draw a picture of his/her family and these were on display in the hall for the mass.

This year the theme of our Healthy Eating week was “Think Before You Drink” and focused on the sugar content in various common children’s drinks. There were certainly a few eye openers here. We all agreed that water was definitely the best option. Many thanks to Mrs Flynn and her team for putting together a very informative display and resource pack.

A very warm welcome back to you all after what we hope was a wonderful Summer for you and your families, and we look forward to another enjoyable school year at Scoil Mhuire.
A special word of welcome to our new Junior Infants pupils – 16 in total, who have already settled in superbly to school life. We wish them the very best as they begin their journey with us at Scoil Mhuire. I think you will agree that they are a happy looking bunch, and so scholarly in their beautiful new school uniforms.
Their Senior Infant friends in Room 1 have been a great help to them as they explore their new surroundings.
We also welcome back our staff after a much needed summer break, and extend a fáilte mór to our new members of staff: Mrs Ryan, Mrs Healy and Mrs Killeen. We look forward to working with them throughout the coming school year.
