Féach ar an sampla atá anseo!

Football Fever!

On Friday, the 2nd of October, Scoil Mhuire’s Under 13 boys played Two Mile Borris NS in Littleton in the first game of this year’s Allianz Cumann na mBunscol football competition. Despite a spirited second half performance, Scoil Mhuire could not overcome a half-time deficit.

The boys then faced Nenagh CBS on Thursday, the 8th of October in the Ragg. Unfortunately, Nenagh CBS proved too strong on the day and were not to be denied. The Scoil Mhuire boys tried tirelessly in both encounters and can be very proud of their efforts.

Last Wednesday, the 7th of October, Scoil Mhuire’s U13 girls competed in the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol ladies football competition in Moyle Rovers. This was played as a blitz with five schools involved namely: New Inn GNS, Ballyneale NS, Gaelscoil Charraig na Siúire, Lisronagh NS and Scoil Mhuire, Knockavilla. The girls played some great football throughout and took some excellent scores. Their efforts could not be faulted. Well done to all involved.

Wildlife Watchers

First and Second class enjoyed a wonderful woodland walk in Dundrum Woods last week. They learned lots of new things about trees, animals, birds and old farm machinery. We are very grateful to Coillte for putting together this event and inviting us along.

We also enjoyed learning about the busy squirrel in Autumn. Each child made their own ‘furry friend’ to bring home and learned a lovely poem. We hope you enjoy it too.

 “The Squirrel”

Anonymous

Whisky, frisky,
Hippity hop;
Up he goes
To the tree top!

Whirly, twirly,
Round and round,
Down he scampers
To the ground.

Furly, curly
What a tail!
Tall as a feather
Broad as a sail!

Where’s his supper?
In the shell,
Snappity, crackity,
Out it fell.

Fun Friday!!

Fun Friday is definitely our favourite day of the week in the infant room. We love working in stations to revise what we’ve been doing all week. In maths we have been busy matching things that go together, while we love playing board games to revise the sounds we have covered this week in literacy.

Our class was busy in September exploring the school and learning all about the different colours. Our favourite book was without a doubt ‘Brown Bear Brown Bear, What Do You See?’ We even got to act out the story ourselves.

At the moment we are busy with Autumn. Last week we got to go outside on a nature walk and we collected lots of leaves and acorns for our nature table. We met Knobbly, Scoil Mhuire’s very own oak tree. This week we will be learning all about the squirrel and the hedgehog. Everyone is looking forward to lots of Halloween activities next week before the holidays.

No day is complete without a chance to unwind at play time. We take part in a different activity every day with our group. It’s the perfect end to a busy day.

Cross Country Reports

On Tuesday night I got my bag ready for Cross-Country.  On Wednesday morning I got up, got dressed, ate breakfast and brushed my teeth.  Then I went to school.  Everyone was really excited.  We went inside and the next thing we knew, we were on the bus.

We went to Thurles.  We went into the field.  There were a lot of children.  We found a spot and then 3rd and 4th class girls started to get ready for the race.  We got our jersey and our number.  We went to the start line.  I was nervous.  Then I heard a boom and the race started.  I was so tired after the race.  The 3rd and 4th class boys raced.  Shane Buckley came first.  The older people raced.  Then it was time to go home.

On the way home we stopped into Topaz.  The teachers said we were getting diesel but they were joking.  We got ice-cream from McDonalds.  I got a chocolate sundae.  When we got back to school we had lunch and all the big end had a football match.  Soon it was time to go home with NO homework.  It was the best day ever!  I can’t wait until next year.

I packed Tuesday night for Cross-Country.  I was so excited when I went to bed.  I got up in the morning and got dressed.  I went downstairs and had my breakfast.  I got my bag and went to school, and then to Thurles.

When we got to Thurles we walked in and found a place to stay and put our bags.  Ms O Donoghue did a warm-up with us and Ms O’Dwyer brought us over to the start line.  We heard the whistle and we ran.  At the end I came 51st out of 112.  I met my cousin Nicole.

After we all raced, we went to McDonalds.  We got ice-cream there. I had caramel.  It was very nice.  When we got back to school we played a big game of soccer.  It was really fun.  I loved the day out.  I’m so glad I went.  I was tired when I got back.

On Wednesday I woke up and ate my breakfast.  I got ready and put my gear into my bag.  When we got to school we went inside for a few minutes and then came back out to the bus.

I sat beside Rowan.  It took us half an hour to get to Thurles.  We saw Semple Stadium.

We found a spot and the 3rd and 4th class girls had a race.  We all cheered for them.  The 3rd and 4th class boys raced.  I came 52.  Shane Buckley from our school won.  He is an athlete.  The 5th and 6th class raced.  They were really good at running.  When they were finished running we had lunch.

We got back on the bus and went to Topaz.  Teacher told us we were just getting diesel but we got ice-cream.  I had chocolate syrup on mine.  It was yummy.  When I went home I was really happy and I fell asleep.

On Wednesday, the 30th of September, we went to the Cross Country competition in Thurles.

We went on two buses. I did not run but the other children ran. I enjoyed watching them.

Shane won a medal because he came first. On the way back to school we went for ice cream.  I got the chocolate flavour.

Rugby World Cup Fever!!

World Cup Fever has certainly hit Mrs Tierney’s class this autumn.  The children have each been drawn a team for the tournament and are working on a research project on their country.  We have looked at the flag, capital city, language, population and geographical location.  We are currently working on climate, famous landmarks and food.

As we near the end of the pool stages, some teams are out but many of our favourite teams are still in and will hopefully progress well in the quarter finals.  The friendly rivalry among the different countries is enjoyable to watch and the competition will no doubt be mounting over the next few weeks.
